Hi, my name is Laura Restrepo, I am Colombian and I am the founder of BLOOM CUP.
I consider myself a feminist. I didn´t know the meaning of this word until I started BLOOM. Since I was very young I've felt the need to fight for my rights as a woman, for justice and for gender equality, but I didn´t know that meant being a feminist. Finally while in college I found a way to materialize all these inner forces in me and it is called BLOOM CUP.
I was in college when I was introduced to the menstrual cup. At first it seemed a bit crazy to try such a thing, but I've always being adventurous. It was worth giving a chance to a product that seemed so amazing for my body and the environment. After just one month, I noticed my period didn't smell bad, I could sleep carefree without fear of leaks, and it was simply not a hassle anymore. So, I decided to become a reseller of cups in Colombia, my home. I began talking with many women about what they like about the cup and what they struggle with, to better understand how different types of women were using the cup. I realized that there was a huge opportunity to bring these cups not only to young women who were open minded and were willing to try the cup, but also to many women in need who don't have easy access to feminine hygiene products. That was the moment I decided to start my own brand and put my own vision into this wonderful product. I came to the United States looking for suppliers, because I wanted my product to be made with the best quality materials and manufactured by the highest standards.
Starting a business in Colombia is very challenging due to: the never ending legal barriers, the lack of infrastructure for e-commerce businesses, and the immense cultural taboos regarding menstruation and women’s bodies in general. At the same time, all these bumps in the road were the ones that motivated me the most. I had just finished my business degree and had all the energy and confidence that I could make it happen. And here I am a year later, trying to expand BLOOM Cup not only in Colombia and Latin America, but also bringing it to the United States with the opportunity of a bigger market and the challenges of a different culture.
Our mission is to improve women's quality of living through education and awareness about menstruation. The use of the menstrual cup is an excellent way to start connecting with our bodies and empower ourselves. BLOOM CUP intends to become a game changer for women by showing them how to leave taboos behind. It is time to feel proud of having menstrual cycles.
Our vision is clear: A world where there is no shame for periods, where women are not judged for their emotional cycles and where they live in harmony with their own bodies. This is how women will be able to be part of the world equal to men and to use their inner power to achieve any personal goals they want to pursue.
